In the movies my favourite character is Legolas(love those elves), but in the books I would have to say I preferred Aragorn, the reason being that brilliant poem by Tolkin about him:

All that is gold does not glitter
not all those who wonder are lost
The old who is strong does not wither
deep roots are not reached by the frost
From the ashes a fire shall be woken
a light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
the crownless again shall be king.

My favorite person from the trilogy is Boromir! He's brave, strong, and has a powerful sense of loyalty to his country. Boromir is the only one to represent "men" on the whole. Aragorn was more akin to a hybrid bridge between the Eldar and the Edain. Even when in doubt of everything that he was told to do, Boromir snapped into action whenever needed, and died doing the right thing! (Though he would not have died, had he hidden behind a tree or run off somewhere until legolas/gimli came back from where ever they had gone. (as professional coward I pick up on methods of escape) Those Uruk Hai were told to bring back the hobbits alive! all others could be dispatched in the most unpleasant of ways. So he technically fought those suckers in vain. What do our parents tell us...run away and get help, there is no shame in that. Poor Bory, ugh even Gandalf came back!!! Someone bring him back too. He even recognised Aragorn as the true king! He was being so good, this time.

My most disliked character in the movie was Arwen(sorry Arwen fans). That hag kept showing up! AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I was prepared to meet Glorfindel, WTH!!!
This was my thought in the movie(hmm, they sure did make glorfindel's voice pretty girly, as the sword was pressed to Strider's neck) So other than the fact that she stole a role, I have no qualms against her.
In the book, I really didn't like the barrow wights. I mean what were they really(just messed up ghost/zombies?) What was their purpose, just to confuse people and separate them?! I was so frustrated and angry, when it didn't really call for all of that. My thoughts were, why don't you all just back down now and go back to sleep in your hills.

I'd have to say that my favorite Lord of the Rings character is Legolas. Not one to back down from a fight, he was always there with a smart remark. He was a great fighter. Quick with a sword and quick with his bow. He was very athletic and showed no fear, jumping head first into battles, even when odds of winning are slim. He just all around kicked major butt.

I do have other favorites:
Boromir, cuz even though he was in it for his own gain, and he did mess up and cause a chain reaction of events, he did try and redeem himself.
Faramir, he had to put up with his father constantly telling him he bascally sucks and will never live up to his brother. But that didn't stop him. he just kept pushing and doing what he felt needed to be done, proving to hs father that he isn't worthless, and saving his home.
Gimli, becasue he would throw insults out and they were funny. And like his friend Legolas, he had alot of heart and courage, and wasn't one to back away from a fight.

Now my absolute worst character in the trilogy was Frodo. Everyone loves Frodo, but I personally think he's stupid. Everyone was telling him to be careful and be weary of the ring. But he wants to try and be smart and say he can handle it and not listen to them. I bet alot of the situations he got himself and poor Sam into could've been avoided if he just listened more. But I guess that wouldn't make for an interesting story, would it. But I still hate him.

Hard question!
My favourite is Faramir, funnily enough, because he has no hope when we meet him but is determined to carry on to the bitter end and compromise nothing - yet he isn't hardened, he still loves his brother, father, men and country. He is the exemplar of the best that humanity can be, even more so than Aragorn is.
My least favourite character may surprise you - it is Tom Bombadil. Nothing wrong with him per se, but he takes up lots of space in the book and contributes next to nothing, an unnecessary sidetrack to the whole book. The evil characters are both necessary and well written, so I may dislike them as characters but they are much needed for the book.
Cheers, Steve.

It's a hard question, as so many of the characters have qualities that I admire for different reasons.

Sam partictually stands out to me because of his unerring loyalty to his master, following Frodo to what could be their death, even going so far as being willing to carry the burden of the ring when he thinks his master dead. He has no airs and graces which goes to show you don't need to be rich or powerful in order to achieve great things.

My least favourite characters are probably Grima Wormtongue, as he is manipulative and slippery, and it sickens me when he spits on the stairs of Edoras. I also depise the Uruk Hai for their brutality (shown in thier slaying of Boromir), and Saruman for his threachery. Sauron, where do I begin? Desire of ultimate power through whatever means isn't a very endearing quality is it?!

Treebeard and The Ents. He is wise and very old and like all Ents are searching for the female Ents that got lost a long time ago (not covered in the films but in the books).

Worst character is Wormtongue because he is two-faced and slimy.

In the movies, I thought Grima was played extremely well. For the books, definitely Gandalf. I like his wise and patient attitude. The worst in the movies would be Arwen. I thought Liv TYler didn't do well playing her part, but I didn't strongly dislike her. I just thought she was the weakest. In the books, I didn't appreciate Gollum, but after seeing the movies, I had a new perspective on him.

Gandalf is the best because he actually has a personality. Bilbo's quite good as well. Legolas, Aragon and Frodo tie for most dull and uninteresting characters and Samwise wins most insipid and irritating. This is going by the book not the film.

Movie Verse...I love Aragorn. He's faced with a tough future, knowing he must defeat such evil and become King to bring Middle Earth together as one again. He's brave, wise, strong.

Book Verse...I like Eowyn. She stands by her convictions and is strong. I would have liked to read more about her.

The character I dislike the most? Grima Wormtongue. He's slippery, slimy, deceitful and two-faced.

In the book Gollum because he is misunderstood and a sad character.
In the film Aragorn because he is gorgeous.

Havent really got any worst but most of the hobbits get on my nerves at times.
