I'm an undergraduate student, majoring in Business & Finance. Basically, I'm required to bring a laptop during most of my classes (which is a norm nowadays). I'm now window-shopping for a laptop. But which laptop is suitable for a university student like me? What is a good brand to look at?

Hi, I'm an undergrad like you. I would recommend buying a Dell Inspiron E1505. It's not too big and bulky, is very functional and is sturdy. If you want to watch DVD's or something, I'd go with a 17" E1705, but since you say you'll be bringing this thing along with you, I'd go with the E1505. Since all laptops are shipping out with Windows Vista pre-installed, I'd also recommend getting at least 2 gigabytes of RAM. Hope you like my suggestion,

First, it should weigh no more than 5 and 1/2 pounds. Otherwise, it's just too heavy to carry around. Second, it has to be able to run for at least 2 hours on the battery, even when the laptop is 1 year old. Since even the best rechargeable batteries don't hold up very well, you want a newer mobile CPU type (the main computer processor unit made by Intel or AMD) that uses as little power (in watts) as possible, while yet performing well. Third, it should have an integrated WLAN (802.11g) wireless network capability to talk to your college computer network.
The new Microsoft Vista operating system may finally be a good reason to buy an Apple computer. I believe you'll have a lot less headaches using the Apple's Unix based operating system than Microsoft's Vista operating system. Apple should be totally compatible with your Microsoft PC friends on campus. The Apple will cost more, but it may be worth it.
