It's not the end of the World.. The long count calender resets back to 0 after reaching 13 "baktuns".... 1 baktun = 144,000 days.. 13 baktuns = 5,125 years.. A new World Age will commence.. It's the beginning of the age of Aquarius, there are lots of theories as to what will actually happen, remembering that it won't happen over night.. It has been called "The Shift" for a long time.. Some believe that with our new Spiritual awakening that will take place because of this, we will enter the 4th dimension , others say the 5th dimension.. Time has sped up and that is a scientific fact...I am not going to search for those exact details, but the USAF has been using some sort of calculation ever since radar came into being..Since about 1984 they have no longer been able to use it, as it is climbing ,and once again here we see as it approaches the 000013 mark on the scale, time is getting faster.. I would also like you to note the birth's World-Wide of the Crystal / Indigo Children also started in approx 1984 (if you havn't heard of them ,I suggest you do some research).. These children also have a huge part to play in all of this.. I envy you younger people as you will be the one's to witness something that will be far more fantastic and exhilerating than any of us can possibly imagine.. Hold onto your seats people as you are all part of this, believe it or not, like it or not, it's coming and there is no escape for the still Earth bound.... Love and Light.. Blessed Be )O(

They Mayans are in good company when they say we are on the cusp of a new age as their Great Cycle, of 5,125.36 years ends. This represents one fifth of the great cycle of 26,000 well known to the Babylonians, Egyptians, Norse, Celts, Manding, Chinese, and the East Indians whose charts also agree we are entering an age very different than what the world has known since the Birth of Christ. This precession of the zodiac over the equinoxes now give us the Age of Aquarius.
The Mayans viewed the world differently making little distinction between religion and science. They shared a collective dream which was their purpose and it included an obsession with time, myths, astrology and their big history. They foretold their end as a great civilization as well as humanities. In short, on Winter Solstice A.D. 2012 the present world age will end and a new world age will begin or not.

I first read about the end of the Maya calender here in Answers. Since then, I've found the 'correct' date is either December 1, 21 or 23. And in either 2012 or 2013. Who knows what the truth is.
I've also read that the Aztec calender predicted "the end of the world" sixty years before the arrival of the Spanish, in the New World. (An event which effectively did end the world for the Aztec civilisation).
Do I believe? In short, no.

I don't believe it, there have been so many guesses when the end of the world is going to be. Most people thought that the year 1999 was going to be the end of the world. and the world is still here. No one can really know when something like that is going to happen. I personally have stopped wondering about that, you have live for everyday that we are granted.

that date is based on the Mayan calendar. the Mayan calendar ends in December 23 2012, and the Mayans were very well known for their astronomical knowledge

I don't believe that, but I find the Mayan Calendar to be fascinating. They were some trippy *** people and they must have been doing some good drugs. I plan to visit the temples as soon as I can. But if the world ends, I ain't scared.

i remember watching a tv show that said that Montesuma (an Astec chief) had a prophecy that he and his empire will die on an -something- year (i forgot on what year). it was one in a 54 chance and the year when cortes came and destroyed the astecs was that -something- year. so theese prophecies have proven to be true.
it could be maybe that an alien invasion will happen on december 21, 2012 or the yellowstone eruption or maybe we will just kill ourselves with another war or the earth will become unhabitable for humans because of all the greenhouse gasses...

but still this is just a superstission, dont worry that much about it...

I'll let you know onthe 22nd.

People have been picking dates for centuries as the last day of the world. They haven't been right so far, I am not going to hold my breath.

Also, "END OF THE WORLD" is a misnomer. The planet (or world) will exist for millions of years, until the sun blows itself up. Our existance on it is what is in question. The human race is very fragile and can become extinct in a matter of years.

I am freaked out by the Mayans. The movie, 23, talks about that. And, remember, with time, dates, and everything, the Mayans were always only a few digits off...

UH-OH!!!!!!!!

It may be the end of the world AS WE KNOW IT. But that doesn't mean the world will be destroyed, or all life will end, just a major change will happen that will alter our perspectives forever.
