Give us much detail as possible such as what rewards were given for, any prizes that resulted in so many rewards, certificates awarded and things like that. Name of your school with it would help. Would especially like to hear from people in UK.

Ibstock High School and Community College, in the English East Midlands, used to have four houses: Charnwood, Sherwood, Arden, and another whose name I can't remember (it was a long time ago).

There were awards for sports and academic work both on the house and individual level.

On an individual level, pupils could be awarded 'Stars' for good work, and 'Stripes' for misbehaviour (both were actually slips of paper). Receiving three 'stripes' would result in the pupil losing a 'star'. At the end of the academic year, the amount of stars were tallied, and the pupil with the highest number would have a presentation during school assembly (not sure if any certificates were given). The house with the highest number of stars would receive the 'Works' trophy. This was always won by Arden house (my house!)

On a sporting level, I think there were inter-house games. I can definitely remember a swimming gala. Charnwood always won the sporting trophies.

I went to Chew Valley School which is just outside Bristol.

The pupils were/are divided into 4 houses. For good work we were given house points - normally worth just 1 point. For really good behaviour/work we were given a pink slip - which I think was worth 5 points. But for bad behaviour we were given a yellow slip - with was worth minus (-) 5 points.

On sports day every one who had taken part in an event (regardless of where they came in) was given a house point. During the year there were other sports events that were held and points given out for those as well.

Every year the points were added up and the house that had got the most points had a day trip in the Summer Term to somewhere like Weymouth or Alton Towers. (While I was there the house I was in never won). The individual tutor groups in each year would also have a competition to see who could collect the most points and were awarded a 'silver' cup that would be displayed outside the Headteacher's Office.

Went to school in London.
We got merits for outstanding work and attendance. Rewards were given out termly, with the more merits gained the better the reward.

They attempted a house point system when i was in year 8. It failed because to be honest, no on was very interested in it.

I went to a convent in North London. We had a carrot and stick approach to discipline. The sticks I well remember - the carrots - were few and far between! The nuns were stern - if one smiled in your direction you were ecstatic! No stickers, certificates etc ever came my way. Oh the good old days...............!!
