AMG is a subsidiary of Mercedes Benz that takes a stock new Benz and soups it up with a couple of sporty items (suspencion, larger engine, fancier interior). The car is still new and sold through Mercedes Benz dealerships with full Mercedes warranty.

4Matic is a 4 wheel drive version of a car. It is an automatic. However the transmission is connected to all 4 wheels for better traction.

Kompressor means the engine is supercharged (Germans spell it with a K... but we spell it with a C), An air compressor is mounted on the air intake to force more air into the engine. This allows them to put more fuel into it - thereby creating more horsepower from the engine (as compared to a naturally aspirited engine).

AMG does not stand for American Motor Group
AMG or Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach was founded in 1967 as AMG Motorenbau und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (AMG Engine Production and Development, Ltd.) by former Mercedes engineers Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher in a town near Stuttgart called Großaspach.

to logan j, the kompressor's don't all have v-8's. for example the slk's ranging from the slk 200 - slk 230 all have inline 4's. in the c-class' they have the w202 with the inline 4's (c 200 - c 230) and v-6's (c 320), and in the w203's only the c 180 was a kompressor and it was an obvious inline 4 with only a 1.8 liter. the same rule applies in the new w204 with an inline 4 and also a 1.8 liter, thus the c 180 and no v-8. the new e 200 is a kompressor also and it's a 4 banger with a 1.8 liter as well. now onto the clk's, the w208 clk's have a 4 banger also with a 2.3 liter so again no v-8's.

AMG is one of the tuners (among others Brabus etc). They use Mercedes cars on which they mount their own engines, gearboxes, suspensions, brake systems a.s.o.4MATIC is the permanent 4 wheel drive, used since 1988 on W124 for the first time, that sets a report of 40-60 between the front and the rear axle.Kompressor means the turbocharger for the gasoline engines(the term don't match turbocharged diesels)

AMG = American Motor Group. It's basically the 'sport' edition. It usually comes with nicer options, better rims and tires and a VERY nice engine. These cars also have nice body kits on them already.

4 MATIC = The car is 4-wheel-drive

KOMPRESSOR = Basically a fancy name for the V8 under the hood that is modified for better performance more than that of just the AMG, hence the supercharger.

Silver is right. All the way. Mercedes Benz stopped making the Kompressor. But it was fast as hell.
