My mum had a hysterectomy two weeks ago and the wound where they cut her open became infected so she was given antibiotics. It has now got worse and they had to double her dose of antibiotics. She has been resting properly and in bed mostly. Can you give me any tips on how she can look after herself any better and get rid of the infection as soon as possible? she washes it twice a day with salt water. thanks.

They may have her on the wrong antibiotics. She should have improved by now. Salt water - ouch.

i had a hysterectomy 2yrs ago now and i was fine but Ive had 4 Cesarean sections and each time Ive had infections the last one was 10yrs ago and i thought i was dying my scar seemed to open up it was awful but i called the doctor home and he gave me 2 courses of different antibiotics and the district nurse came in for 2wks to change the dressings but i found it got easier if i was out of bed and walking about not going out just around the house i hope your mum gets better soon and starts living her new life because that's what you get with a hysterectomy a new lease of life x

an IV w/ antibiotics would work better and faster. Tell her to ask a doc if she could sit in the office for 30-45 minutes with an IV in. They should have done that w/ her surgery to begin with.
