I am 39 weeks and in alot of pain. My labor has stalled and I can't seem to get it going again. I can hardly move around and my doctor said to try things at home to get it going before he would induce me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Are you dilated any? Effaced at all? I am in my 38th week, dilated 1-cm and 75% effaced. My doctor suggested walking as much as possible, going up and down a flight of stairs (I'm using my sister-in-laws staircase), and sex. He said sex was pretty darn effective, but I can sit here and tell you that I've been trying it, and I'm still pregnant. It might work for you because everyone's different. If you're in that much pain, TELL your doctor. If he acts like he just can't do anything about it, get another opinion. Please don't do the castor oil. It is not good for you or the baby. It is so disappointing that midwives and other women are still suggesting it. Good luck and congratulations!!

So I dont get yelled at- some doctors dont agree with this.
However- this "coctail" was given to me by my midwife and worked for 3 of 4 of my kids- its really gross and will give you diarrhea but it has never failed anyone I have told it to- you have to be at LEAST 38 weeks or it wont work at all.

2oz of castor oil
2oz of orange juice
2 oz of Vodka (optional if you have issues with it but it helps the shock of the diarrhea)

take this and then 3 hours later if labor has not progressed. It is nasty- I wont lie- but I know that when I was absolutely desperate, Nasty was just relative at that point. The cramping diarrhea is a similar sensation to the contractions and it tricks your body into believeing its in labor.

Some people will go off saying its no good or that its not recommended but like I said- I got it from my midwife at my OBGYN office.

Another tip is to cause an orgasm either by having sex or by masterbation. This one never worked for me

One last tip is nipple stimulation- you can sort of gently twist your nipples until you feel twinge like sensations in your belly- it releases oxytocin and that is what also triggers labor. It would start contractions for me but they would go away after about an hour.

Good Luck and have a safe delivery!

just walk that is the safest way I would say the day before I had my children I walked for 2 solid hours I wasn't even dilated but had each one on there due dates. But I walked every day of my pregnancy about 1 hr a day it didn't matter how the weather was. I also had short and easy labors and births.

Please do not use Castor oil. Reason being it passes to the baby and can cause death. It can make the baby pass a bowel movement in womb. Try walking, sex, spicy food, pineapple, bumpy car ride, and More sex.

oh congrats I'm 38 weeks and still going..she isn't even close to coming yet.....everyone keeps telling me to do some heavy cleaning and rearrange your room/house....nipple stimulation... red raspberry leaf tea, promising seed oil...Castor Oil ..you name it i probably thought of trying it.... but in reality i cant bring myself to do it.... i mean i want her so bad to hold in my arms and everday i stress that I'm going to wake up with streach marks. i cant sleep, my feet and ankles feel like my arm (fat) .. but its not enough to force her out before her time. but man do i wish everyday and i tell her everyday to just get out already but when the time is right she'll be here... good luck

My best suggestion is to change your doctor, but before that-admit yourself to labor and delivery floor. To start -help labor, you can walk so fetus descends (moves down). You want to monitor your baby-please go to hosp. and good luck.
