The average number of eggs for the females are about 1200 eggs per pound of its body weight. A female of 50 pounds or more might produce a 300,000 to 400,000 eggs with most of them hatching.Like any other fish, it has external fertilization.Spawning is the same as most of other fish. Its eggs are yellow with a rounded shape. When the catfish health is poor, its eggs are not spawned as its ova are reabsorbed by its body as nutrients are transferred back its liver to maintain its health.
