5x = 3x + 8 subtract 3x from both sifed
2x = 8 divide both sides by 2
x = 4 check by substitution
5*4 = 3*4 + 8 Yup, so we're done.

5x = 3x + 8
2x = 8 ( minus away the 3x)
x = 4 ( divide by two)

just transpose all terms with the variable x on one side. then just do the equation. whether you add or subtract, multiply or divide. goodluck! more will come your way. and much more complicated than that one.
