I'd say Brighton. It has a lot to offer, but like any place it can be grim at times. The last time I was there the streets were full of scummy people, which was a bit of a surprise.

The one thing with Brighton is that it can be pretty grim in the winter though. Mind you, it can be fantastic in the summer.

It has pretty good nightlife, plenty of shops, a diverse group of people, etc, etc. I like the fact that it is full of foreign students in the summer, as that gives it a very different feel.

It is also very open, with good facilities for cyclists, and a well serviced train station.

Apologies to the decent people of Brighton but the impression I get is that it's a town full of chavs, scum, criminals and other forms of sub-human low-lives. I'd chose Hampshire any day.
