It depends on the word processor application. There are hundreds, and there's no universal key to make ordinals.

word by default should shrink-and-uppercase the nd and so on by itself (for 1st and 2nd it works... ) otherwise you need to find the 'superscript' option for the font.

WordPerfect does that for me automatically. (superscript the th, nd, etc.)
