It's a grey line. The X plane contest defined it as 100 km above the earth or around 62 miles. Actually, there's still atmosphere at about 400 miles. It's not thick, but it's there.

technically space is all around you, so there is no distance between space and land, but the answer your looking for is 60 miles. our atmosphere is 60 miles thick.
