First world war was fought in 1914-1919..
It was due to Germany.
Once a prince of Austria was killed when he was visiting some of his neighbouring countries.
Germany highlighted it and this led to the First world War which was followed by The Second World War.

there was several reasons behind it like imperialistic rivalries,conflicts with europe,formation of alliances,clash over morocco,balkan issue,war against turks.the immediate cause was -
on 28 june,1914 A.D Archduke Francis Ferdinand,heir to tht throne of Austria-Hungary was assassinated at Sarjevo,the capital of Bosnia(which had come under the annexation of Austria).

It was caused due to the assasination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife on their visit to Sarjevo in Germany by the black hand.Western countries like England and the US got angered and blamed the German govt.Germany retaliated and this led to WW1
