I've often wandered about that myself...
"Excuse me sir, I couldn't help but notice that you're massively fat, and that's just what we need for our next feature, do you mind if I film your *** as you walk down the street?'
Very amusing!

I have always wondered that too. So last year I asked someone at Channel 7 here in Australia. The upshot is this. You can expect no privacy in a public place. Any visual or auditory capturing done in a public place is considered to be in the public domain, and so fair game for the exploitive media, or anyone else who wishes to exploit/prosecute/divorce. As an example, the film showing JFK being assassinated, is shown over and over. That must have been terribly difficult for his children to endure for all those years. And yet they had no say about how often people saw their father killed. Since they can do that to the President of the USA and his family, what chance do a couple of fatties have in getting any respect? Slim to none.

when ever they have footage on the news there are normally other people in the film so I presume it's legal to film in a public place the same as the press does for photographs,I don't think they can film on private property without permission

They only need permission if they reveal the identity , but they normally only show them from the shoulders down.

Why? They don't mind walking down the street in their bodies.
I am sure there are more important things in the world to worry about.
