there are usually two ways to do it. Either if you have an s-video output on your laptop; grab an s-video cable, plug it into your laptop and the other end into the projector. The other way is through your VGA port. You just need a standard monitor cable, you connect one end to your laptop and the other end to the projector. From there you right click on your desktop (anywhere) click properties. Click the last tab "Settings" Then click on the box with a "2" in it. Click extend my desktop onto this monitor." then hit ok. Voila they are connected. (anything that you want to display on the projector screen, just click and drag from your notebook screen to the projector screen... drag to the right)

Most of these projectors I've worked with connect to the video connector (that 15-pin thing) on the back of the laptop.

Plug it in and switch to the external video or dual video... a key with sort of creen image thingies on it that you use a Fn key to make active. If you use 'external' you only see it on the projector, if you use dual you can see on procector and on laptop screen.

You may have to adjust the screen resolution to suit the projector (it's probably VGA, may be XVGA).

When i was at college my lecturers used to use a digital projector with their laptops which connected with a small 15pin plug or USB cable then they'd a white board or projection screen to use as a good surface to project a power point presentation

there is probably a cable in the bag with the projector.

Then with a Dell laptop, you just push the LCD key on the keyboard after everything is turned on and plugged in.

If you are really nervous, prepare paper handouts as a backup plan.
