yes, Hes gonna flush the cooling system and when he does it will flush out the rust and corosion in the rad and if its thin and worn out it will start to leak(maybe not then but soon after)if thats the case its probably best to replace the rad with a new one.the car is up in age and the rad is probably seen better days and do you want to be stranded on the side of the road for taking chances with old worn out parts. replace the rad and have piece of mind

it is a possiblity most likey because (depending on what type of vehicle you have) the radiator is plastic (except for the coils in the middle). over time the plastic can become brittle and if you try to remove a hose (which most places do to service it), the plastic will break and yes, then you would need a new radiator. ask the mechanic exactly how he is servicing the system. if all that is being done it exchanging the fluid, he may be able to hook it up at the engine itself (which is metal) instead of right at the radiator, that may save on having to go through the whole situation all together

It would be crazy to service that thing. A new one only costs about $100, and no service will change the fact that it's an old, corroded radiator. Just replace it.

you should first get a second opinion. think of a mechanic as a doctor. would you let a doctor start a invasive surgury on first opinion. you may have something else wrong with your car
