Privatisation does not always equal excellence, efficency and accessibility, as one can see from the US and many countries which depend mainly on private medicine. A publicly financed NHS can work if managed properly and followed better policies.
For instance, a lot of money is wasted by the NHS on daft reorganisation that led no where but just wasted resources and demoralised staff. As for policies, many things that are provided by the NHS should not be free - e.g. why should maternity care be free for someone having more than 2 children? Why should free food be on the NHS even when the patient is patently well off? Why free nicotine patches for smokers when they have no second thoughts about burning £100s a year on cigs? One could go on. Don't privatise - stop the waste.

If the NHS was privatised it would not be the tax payers who benefit but the people who could afford to pay for treatment. All the money that successive governments have poured into the NHS would be wasted and a private firm would be able to make profit from our investment. You probably don't realise that any government has no money of their own only the money entrusted to them by a population in the form of taxes.

Just how do you propose the tax payer would benefit from an arrangement where our money(The tax payer)should be used to provide the profits of private health providers?
Some things belong in the public sector where they are accountable and others in the private sector where the free market is best placed to provide value for money and good service through competition.
The problem has been that the present(and previous)governments have wanted the best of both worlds in the N.H.S and the public(Consumer)has had to suffer the worst as a result!

The NHS should be government owned, but run as a private institution where the government (and therefore the taxpayers) are shareholders.
That way the excessive bureaucracy and middle management associated with the service can be erradicated and important money spend on equipment, nurses and doctors.
The same should also be done with a lot of public services. Just imagine if the Government still owned BT - but had allowed them the freedom they've had a private company. We'd all have much smaller tax bills....

NHS trusts are part way to privatisation, and they have been a failure in many areas.
As for complete privatisation, look at what that has done to the railways.
I'll stick with what we currently have, and if I need anything outside that I'll use my health insurance to pay for it
