To me it really does seem far too young, but I know that many people do leave their babies in childcare from about 12 weeks. I do think if you are feeling bad about it now, then you might regret it later.
Have you identified the main reason that you want to go back to work so soon? For some mums it is a financial need, but for other mums, they really feel like they are missing the intellectual stimulation that they get at work. Others really crave the social aspect that going to work can offer.
Some mums also want to escape their current situation of being "trapped" at home with a dependent baby and feel that they can "get back their old life" by going to work.
Sometimes going back to work does seem to solve these problems, but it can also exacerbate them if you are coming home to a baby that has been in someone else's care all day and then takes far longer to settle etc, or wants to be fed all night because they haven't seen you all day.
There are also other ways that you can alleviate the above cravings and needs.
I have been running my own business from home for 2 years and that certainly provides the financial and intellectual stimulation side of things.
With the social aspect, you need to make sure that you are getting out enough. Go to playgroups, visiting friends, shopping centres, craft mornings etc.
If you are feeling trapped and desperate at home, then you may need to see a doctor about post natal depression. Sometimes it may just be very minor, and you may just need a friend or grandparent to come over for one night a week so you and your husband can go out for a quiet dinner together to recharge.
I "love" that I can be at home with my children, and I know that I will have no regrets. No one ever says on their death bed that they wish they had worked more... lol

That is the age old question. I have a 5 month old and have thought of going back to work to help out with the finances but i just could not bare to leave her with anyone except family. Babies can go in to daycare at 6 weeks if you are an employee there and 8 if you are not. So a plus for the both of you would be if you just need a little extra cash to work at the facility where she would be going. You would get to visit with her often and you get a great discount rate for being an employee. Take a couple days or weeks to think about it and do what you feel is right for you and your baby.

I would wait until she's had at least three of her immunisation shots, which in Australia are given at 2, 4 and 6 months. That way, she will at least be somewhat protected from possible infection. Childcare is an excellent transmitter of germs and viruses, this cannot be controlled. In the beginning, until she builds immunity, she WILL get sick.
If you can't wait that long, try at least for 2 shots.
There are studies into the effects of childcare on children which you may choose to research, but if you don't have a choice, then rest in the knowledge that many parents have to place their children into care. You need to work out what is best in your situation. Just make sure you visit a few centres, UNANNOUNCED, and choose one you feel comfortable with. Look at hygiene, routines and resources, staff interacting with babies and trust the FEEL of the room.

Many moms have no choice but to put them into childcare when they are 6 weeks old. It's hard going back, but you have to support your family too. Good luck to you, the next few weeks back to work will be trying on both of you.

Most childcare facilities with infant openings will take a baby when it's 6 weeks old. The difficult thing is finding someplace with infant openings.

Im a working mom. No its not too early. Really check the place out. Make suprise visits un announced. Count diapers ect. Just make sure your baby is being taken care of .
My daycare is in my office, and they know my kids better be in good shape when I come down. Or heads will roll. :) I do alot of paperwork so I keep a swing and bassenet/playpen combo in my office.

If u an afford to stay back, please do, u will never regret it.
Yes, your baby is too young for childcare.
I am one for staying with the baby, for as long as it takes, it can be upto 2 yrs too, when he/she is ready for playschool.ie. if u can afford to do so. It has so many benefits, u will realise later on in life.
