I just purchased an Acer Aspire 5570 notebook. It came with no o/s. I told the tech guy at the store to format and partition it because I was going to install winXP when I got home. When I turn it on, the screen boots to a DOS looking interface with mentions of Linux prior to the blinking cursos. I have no experience with Linux. What do I do to begin my WinXP installation. Thanks!

Check that the bios allows boot-from-CD first...

then boot the lappy with the WinXP install CD in it.

When it asks you, clear all of the partitions off the disk drive and divide it up the way you want (or all 1 big partition if you like... but that may waste space). Format them as part of the install... then let the installer carry on with its thing.

all that you have to do is turn on the system. Insert your Windows XP cd. Restart the system. You should be prompted to install windows xp from there. Simple.
