A batter of mass 100kg uses a bat of mass 2.0kg to hit a 140g ball. If the impact time is 0.01s and the ball reaches a speed of 60km/h from rest, what was the average force applied to the ball?

v = u + at
u = 0
60 * (1000/3600) = a * 0.01
=> a = 5000/3 m/s^2
F = m*a = 140/1000 * 5000/3 = 233 N.
This is also the force applied by the ball onto the bat.

its an impulse and momentum problem so heres a hint
ave force = impulse / time
to find the impulse, use momentum equations
