Of course there are many types of alcohol. You’ve got Ethanol above. But how about rubbing alcohol (fp –86 C) or the one of compounds that made the smell of bananas isoamyl alcohol (FP –117) (yes there’s also isoamyl acetate – but we are talking alcohol here).

As far as your fish, why not go all the way? Shock that fish with a stun gun. Or how about the shock wave from a firecracker? A microwave oven would be interesting.

You’ve got the acid/base answer, but how about oxidation? Put some peroxide in there.

You can kill a fish without cutting it in water by a couple of ways. You can change the temperature of the water (either decrease or boil it) and you can add substances to the water like salt and alcohol and others to raise or lower the pH level.
