Start with a few useful words, like "Guten Tag", "Guten Abend" and short conversations:

Wie geht es? - Gut, danke
How are you (lit. How goes it) - Good, thanks

Wie heisst du? - Meine Nahme isst...
What is your name (lit. How call you) - My name is ....

Then learn the verbs to be (sein) and to have (haben). Try learning more words, search for easy german texts (for instance childrens books), try listen to german television or radio. etc.etc.etc...

Good luck! (Viel Erfolg!)

Try starting with the alphabet, and learn what sounds what letters make, that should help you to get an idea while looking at a word on how to pronounce it. Then small useful phrases that are very common, like hello, or i dont understand, or where is the bathroom...buying tapes with german on them is very useful if you repeat what they say, then start learning verbs and then adjectives. GOOD LUCK :P :)

German, heh? Get some audio tapes/CDs so you can mimic the sounds. I think the key to learning any language is simply having a desire to do so and then......listen with your heart.
