In my opinion, yes Carter is the best. The show he put on in the dunk contest was amazing. Best I've ever seen and I've seen Nique and Jordan. So smooth and powerful. Nothing is as pretty than a Vince throw down
"doingitright" was talking about Vince never took his team to the promised land, that wasn't the question. Winning a title doesn't make you a great dunker.
"masto," you said you've read stories about Thompson, Dr. J, etc. Come with some talk to back up what you've seen, not stories. I've heard stories about Wilt but never seen him break a board.

Thanks for clarifying things to the folks who left those previous messages Joey24...anyway, Vince Carter is the best dunker by far. His dunks in games are some of the most ridiculous I've ever seen (the baseline double pump two handed reverse slam in his rookie year, the 7'2" human hurdle dunk in the Olympics, the pulverization of Alonzo Mourning) and the 2000 dunk contest was the best display of dunks ever seen before or since.

Carter is the best dunker ever. I believe he got the highest vertical leap in all NBA players. Love that one hand 360 windmill dunk and also the one over the 7 footer!

I don't know! You have a lot of young guys who can throw it down as well.
1. Lebron James
2.Kobe Bryant when he was young
3. Vince Carter
4. Michael Jordan when he was young
5. Dominique Wilkins
6. Shawn Kemp use to be nasty
and the list goes on. But Vince Carter is not the nastiest.

Vince, hands down. I can't think of another player that I'd want a video of pure dunk after dunk. He's got variety, style, amazing verticals, attitude and a sense of humor about all of it.

post nineties yes. I can't say prior to that era because I've read stories about Earl "the Goat" Manigault, Dr. J, David Thompson, etc. who did unimaginable dunks during their time, and with such force that some said that they wanted to stick the ball to the ground.

all style and no substance...carter has never led a team to the promised land (post season play)...although he has played with legitimate stars, hes never been in a conf final...so give me a guy who has been instrumental in his team getting to and winning a finals...(if its dunking, ill take the 'human highlight reel', a number of 'hall' guys said so and I agree)
