Are you taking a heavier course load than you can manage? At my school, most students take 16 credits a semester, but for some 12 is all they can handle if they want to do well. That means either summer school or an extra semester, but it is worth it if better learning is the result.

Are you working as well as going to school? Can you cut back on the hours at work to allow more time for study? Do you have good study habits?

Are you getting enough sleep? Enough exercise? Eating a balanced diet? All these things will impact your academic success.

Are you in the right major? Coursework gets more difficult as the course levels advance, but if you are in a major that suits you, usually your ability to manage the more difficult information also advances. If that isn't happening, maybe you need to rethink your academic goals and question whether your major is the best fit for you.

Can you talk to a professor/advisor who knows you and might be able to point out some specific problems or possibilities to consider?

Good luck!

The best advice I think, and this helped me although now I realize I could have done a lot more, is to utilize the options and services on campus for free. Get some counseling to help you cope with stress, get some tutoring, see your teachers or teachers aides, seek out study groups. Short answer I know, but until you really use all these supports than I would wait to make serious decisions. Also and of course some counseling would tell you the same but controlling your socializing and other distractions of course helps as well, if that is a problem. Good luck.
