No. All artists "borrow" from other artists, it's called being influenced. The only thing you can realistically copyright are specific things, like storylines, a painting's layout and subject matter, characters, etc. A "style" is too vague of a term to legally claim as one's own. It's like saying "I just made a scary movie." You can copyright the movie itself, but not the entire "scary movie" style.

You can't copyright a style unless you can prove that it is your style but everyone finds their influences from somewhere so no you can't copyright an art style or a technique you can only copyright the finished painting or design, for example - i make jewellery, i use beading techniques to create my jewellery i can't copyright the technique because i didn't come up with it, i could use a technique that's used by millions around the world but i could copyright the finished piece because it was my design, see what i mean?
you can pain anything you like, you can't sue someone because they painted the same subject matter as you or used a palette knife like you.

even if you were to copyright something a 30% change makes the next product mine . i don't even bother because when i contract my illistrations i make sure the that specifics of what someone is doing with my work is limited to what we've agreed upon . i sell an image to a tatoo parlor of tattoo reproduction it for that only , not t-shirts , stickers etc. . if i were to re-draw the image in deviantart & it's a little different it's mine . 30% different is also i the eye of the judge or arbitor . take for instance cartooning , a style , and there are hundreds of cartoonists many with similar styles . japanimation for instance all looks very similar , done by many different artists . hope that gives you some insight . ta/ta , tp. mullin
