I spend an absolute fortune on Air freshners and candles and room sprays, plug ins etc all the time, because I have a dog and a messy toddler who is being potty trained, but nothing lasts!

Does anyone have any tips? Maybe you have found a product that really works and makes your house smell nice? And do Yankee Candles really work?

Open windows as much as possible. Get a good, strong vaccuum that will lift pet hairs and that you can also use to wash carpets. Another good way of deodorising carpets and couches is to sprinkle liberally with baking soda, leave as long as possible and vaccuum up. Keeping hard floors clean with a citrus based cleaner will help give the house a fresh smell. I have tried many different air freshners but find most of them have a strong, artificial smell. I recently discovered the plug-in airfreshners from M&S - the one called Green Fig smells wonderful. Yankee candles are good when you burn them but you cant have them burning forever - very expensive !

use the febreeze machine near the dogs bed
febreeze notice-ables smell much stronger than any other
use a candle warmer for your candles it makes them last three times as long
bear essentials has an oil that is amazing
walmart sell a disk that you can put on your candle warmer and put a few drops of oil on and it smells through my whole House within minutes sometimes i even unplug it because it is too strong
use a clean air or fresh linen smell if you use other fruity smells it just smells like a stinks dog that ate strawberries

Those air freshners and sprays cause astma in children, and they don't do any good to the dog either.! These animals have such a powerful sense off smell, it can be overwhelming for them.. Try the 'natural' way and stick some rosemary, mint or basil into pot plants and put them on the window sill. Then open the window, and let some fresh air........ and good luck into the house.. .

PS. The doggy smell is harmless, it's just natural oil in the coat.

Use essential oils - they are good for you and work well. Put some in a little oil burner out of the reach of your baby and dog, put a few drops on a terracotta lamp ring which will smell lovely when you put your light on, and the suggestion above about putting a few drops in a humidifier which you clip onto the radiator is also a good one.

Lavender oil is great for relaxing and calming, while lemon oil is uplifting and energising, so depending on which is more appealling to you, try one of those.

You should put a few drops of scented oil on your radiators, it smells immediatly and every time you turn on your heating, it smells great all over again. I have a large dog and everybody says youd never know by the smell of my house.

forget all your chemicals, go natural. flowers and plants. using all those chemicals you are just damaging the environment and your health. not to mention the little ones, why is asthma for prolific now?

Even plants that dont flower, abosrb lots of harmful chemicals, smelly ones and ones you dont even know are there. Every work place should have plants because of the various chemicals that office machinery and printer put into the air.

Look for the smelliest plant and flowers, or just grow what you like the look of.

Either that or consider changing the flooring. Carpets are dirty and germ carrying beasts. you can never really clean them properly, unlike rugs you can just drag them outside to clean and air. Wood floors are the way, no dirt, no poo, no engrained dog hairs, dust, or mites and germ free!

I have never been to a dog-occupied house that didn't smell like a dog. Diapers can be put in a trash can, and bottoms can be cleaned. But it's practically impossible to get rid of dogsmell.

I put a plastic refill of fabric softener on the windowsills in all the rooms. They smell very nice, and when after about 2 months the smell wears off I use them for the washing. I also have one under the front seat in my car.
