i have got a foul taste in mouth, especially when I swallow, and my mouth feels like it is coated with something. My lips feel like they are burning. However my breath does NOT smell.

Both my dentist and doctor say my mouth looks health. its driving me nuts.

i changed my diet radically in January and have lost 19lb in weight. Stopped having bread, sweet stuff, and crap. I now have a super healthy diet.

Any one have a clue what it could be causing the taste?

Could be several things going on; most bad breath is caused by chronic halitosis. OR it could something involving your digestive system. You may want to see your doctor; if you have acid reflux (minus heartburn) like I do this could be the problem. I also agree with the other person the lip burning is infact a sign of a food allergy. If you have drastically changed your diet this may be the result if this is a completely differant change in foods then yes. It sounds like to me that you are doing a low carb diet and I notice that a lot of people who do this diet tend to have awful breath. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water, and have a lot of mint gum handy.

this might not help at all, but a few years ago I would wake up with this taste in my mouth and want to vomit it was so gross. it turned out to be my esophogus and the way I was sleeping it was draining or something and that was causing the nasty taste. The doc suggested sleeping propped up a bit on my back and avoiding foods close to bedtime. Also, I find that certain toothpastes make my mouth feel disgusting and taste bad with a film. I avoid Colgate as that is one of them. I have had good luck with Arm and Hammer and Mentadent, and the original Crest paste. Good luck!

It sounds like your body is expelling toxins, thanks to your new diet. This is a common side effect of detox. Try using a tongue scraper (you can find them in most pharmacies) after brushing and perhaps drinking some cleansing tea and more water. It should clear up the foul taste and the coated feeling. Burning lips is sometimes a symptom of food allergy. If it persists, ask your doctor again.
