I have this business idea and I need some feedback. I'm thinking about a big shop, you know, in a residential area, somewhere where kids and teenagers can walk to. It would be a big room decorated like a lounge, with armchairs, sofas and may be even bean bags. Anyone can come in to sit there. No alcohol or smoking will be allowed. There will be a counter at the side offering some sandwiches, coffee and soda; all in the to-go style. So, it's like foam plates and cups and no service. There will be some book shelves to a side with used books on them. You can read them inside the place for free and you can buy them. We would also buy used books. There will be a newsstand, too, offering daily papers and some magazines to read for free. Do you think a place like this can draw people? Do you think it will make profits by offering affordable snacks? All your feedback is welcome. Thanks a lot.

The answers are great so far. Thank you! Actually, I am in Egypt right now, but I might be moving to Australia within a year and I would start this business over there.
I was thinking this place could be for teenagers, adults and even senior citizens; not exactly children. You are right about the food AND reading thing, but I could have something like if you stain it, you have to buy it or something.
I was thinking about having a book club meeting every week, you know.
It would be helpful if you stated where you live.
Keep the great ideas coming!
Thanks a million.

I was imagining a cheaper "starbucks" cafe while i was reading your description. I think your establishment will be jam-packed by students since you can actually do org meetings, group meetings etc. If that was in our place, i would definitely go there since it's in a residential are ryt? I am very attracted to places like this! Goodluck in buliding one of your own!

sounds pretty quiet. It's worth a try. If you offer snacks, where will they eat them? Kids and teenagers will mess up your pretty furniture fast ! and you will play waitress and janitor behind them all day !How will you protect the books from dirty fingers and "pranks". How do we know you have a safe place for kids to "hang out"?

sounds funky in principal, but there are a lot of overheads involved, rent/lease/building insurances/public liability insurance/health & safety inspections/utilities/wages/start up costs, the list is endless, would need looking into, good luck
