That's not such an easy question to answer... What do you define as better? See it goes like this:
Playstation 3 came out later in the game, in truth a little over a year that Microsoft released the Xbox 360. Going by technical specs alone, the Playstation 3 comes out on top, with the revolutionary Cell Processor, Blue-Ray disk drive coming standard, and newer video components. However, these new technologies are hard for developers to work with, mainly due to the fact that it takes time to learn how to use new tech.
Microsoft has had a year to work out the kinks in their system. Overheating issues were causing breakdowns in the system near launch, but these have (for the most part) been corrected.
PS3's Blue-Ray drive can either win or lose the war for Sony. It drives up the cost of the PS3 by $200. Market analysts aren't even sure that the public is ready for Blue-Ray, and it may end up tanking. The 360 on the other hand has no HD-DVD drive that comes standard with the system, but instead has an after market player that can be attached to the 360 for a paltry $200. Viewed alone, this is an insanely inexpensive HD-DVD player, but put that into context, and your HD-DVD 360 now cost you about $600 (the same price as a PS3). If you'll watch HD movies, you have to pick a format. Then you can look at the players in a new light.
Currently, cross-platform games look about the same on both systems. It's early on, but at this time, games look better on the 360. Before anyone yells at me, I'm not the one making this conclusion. A third party site (I forget which, but it's something to do with HDTVs and Gaming, just Google it or Yahoo it) took both systems and put each platform's version of multiple games on identical HDTVs and placed them side by side. In most cases, the 360 versions looked better, mainly due to clever lighting techniques. Before you make your decision based on this though, remember that the PS3 is young, and those games could have been rushed to compete.
Then there's online gaming. Here, there is simply no competition. Xbox Live is the reigning champ. With all games supporting voice chat, dedicated servers, constant support from Microsoft, innovative services such as Marketplace (where you can buy TV shows, Movies in HD or standard formats, game content, arcade games, and free demos for upcoming games) and future services such as IPTV (an internet service that lets you stream TV over the internet - so long cable).
PS3s online service is starting to catch up, but Microsoft has years of experience and will be struggling for a long time.
PS3 was supposed to have a bigger fan base, but a late release killed the numbers. The race is close now, but it's early in the game.
Also, styles of games are different across the platforms. In short, 360 games are more action and shooter oriented while PS3 games are more Japanese RPG and Racing. Which do you prefer? Sony promises more games than Microsoft, which is easy to believe considering the number of games the PS2 had. But how much of that is just filler? How many good games will there be?
Oddly, most games today are released for PC and 360, not PC and PS3, so take that into account.
My Recommendation:
If you play online, and don't mind paying 50 bucks a year, go with the 360. Games look and play great, and there's a lot of people on Live. If you play solo, wait another couple of months to see how the PS3 grows into its own. Then take a look at the games, not the system, and decide which games you like more. Graphics and Power are a moot point if the games suck.

The PS3 and 360 have comparable online experiences. The former has superior graphics, a Blu-Ray drive which will overtake DVDs, but a ridiculous price tag. The 360's controller has rumble and it has a more solid line of available games.
The PS3 has greater potential in the long to very long run, but whether its price tag adequately deals with this is debatable. On the whole I'd go with the 360.
