it can depend on a few factors, like how much you earn and how long you've been a council tenant. In London, the council has a responsibility to re-house people if they have beentenants for 2 years or more.

If you go on the waiting list you may not be a priority, due to single mums and disabled people etc.

good luck

well firstly if it's a joint tenancy (is your name on the tenancy agreement?) she can't just kick you out as you will still be liable for the rent etc. your best bet is to speak to the council before you do anything, you will need to be on the housing list before you can be classed as homeless - and if you are homeless they won't just give you a flat, you will be put in B&B or a hostel. You will not get a council flat until you have enough points - this could be about 3 years or so, depending on your particular council's waiting lists. doesn't sound too good does it?! good luck anyway

You just need to ring the council to find out.

Quick answer - you are not homeless, you do not need to be homeless, you are working, you can find your own place, you may qualify for some housing benefit, you most likely will not be classed as homeless, you most likely will not get a flat given to you, you can put your name down on the council housing list.

Hi, unless you have a dependent child, are an immigrant seeking asylum, or a registered disabled, you will not get help from your local council.
I know this as a mate of mine is in the same situation.
You can ut your name on the housing list, but you wont be priority and familys come along all the time, so you will never get to the top of the list.
Your best bet is to rent a room, or bedsit. The only difficulty you will have is saving your deposit, and that is usually a month and a half rent, plus a month in advance.
Good luck

Yes you would be classed as homeless and if you live in an area where they can find you a property then this is what they shall do but a hell of a lot of people have to privately rent these days as there are no council properties due to mortgages being so stupidly priced

Firstly you don't have to leave - its your house as well as theirs. When I divorced and have to give up the house, I had to sublet for years and then the council gave me a lower quality flat, and I was unemployed, now I am working In a low paid job and have to pay full rent and council tax. I stay outside Glasgow, Good luck

You'll join the housing list but it'll be a wait before you get somewhere (I had to sleep on a mates sofa with my young daughter for months but this is a number of years ago). If you find a place to rent and apply for Housing Benefit you may not get much help as you are working.
Good luck x

i understand of a pair only like you who could no longer get a council living house,so as that that they had the concept of borrowing a pregnant buddy to flow right down to the council place of work with the more youthful guy to assert she became pregnant and they were homeless, sure they did supply them a 2 mattress room flat in below 3 wks and the council in no way checked up on them,in the journey that they did they could have informed them she had lost the toddler.it is a real account of how they were given on the council housing they now have a three mattress semi indifferent and three babies.

I was in a joint tenancy until 18months ago, i had to find myself a private rented flat. After you have left you will need to contact your former landlords to remove your name from the tenancy agreement, otherwise you could find yourself liable if your former partner defaults on the rent or any other part of the agreement. Unless you are elderly , disabled or have dependent children it is highly unlikely that your local council will do much to help you.
