I wouldn't mind it so much if only he knew he couldn't lay on his face. I even tried that thing that keeps him in place and he absolutely hates it. What should I try?

My son is also 5 months and has been this way since he was 2 months. His doc said to put him on his back no matter. If I try to force him to sleep on his back he either rolls back over or is up every hour. I got very concerned because his doc said that a baby that sleeps on their tummy is at risk for SIDS, so I spoke to my aunt who is a RN in an OB clinic and she told me that babies who cant push themselves up are the ones who tend to sleep on their faces which means they get more carbon monoxide than oxygen and is a factor for SIDS and that as long as he can push his face up with his arms he should be fine. I trust what my aunt had to say because she has been a nurse for quite a long time and she has 4 kids of her own plus my son is trying to crawl already, so I feel a little better about it. Good luck!!

At this age, he can pretty much flop around all he likes! I wouldn't think this would be a problem now that he is out of the early infancy stage. The best thing is to ask your pediatrician.

But, don't worry so much about it. I think he'll be fine.

There is not much you can do other than rolling them back over when you notice. My children all three did the same thing when they were babies. And when i tried putting things by them to keep them from rolling over they wouldn't stay asleep or go back to sleep.

As long as he is in the area with you and you are watching him let him lay on his face he will learn that he needs to turn his head. My daughter is 2 months and will cry like crazy on her back so she spends most of her time on her belly. it only took her a few mins to learn that she had to turn her head to breath.

Try letting him lay on his tummy! My daughter is almost 6 months old and loves laying on her front. I put her down to sleep on her back and when I go to get her in the morning she's on her front. They like it because they like having things close to their cheeks for snuggling. If he's comfortable like that just leave him. I sleep on my front now, so he may just prefer to sleep like that. It's only when they're newborn and can't move their heads properly that it's recommended for them to sleep on their backs.

Once my son was able to rollover on his own he didn't sleep on his back. The Dr.'s say that its ok if they sleep on their belly once they are able to roll over if they need. It's normal.
