Bring a bathing suit and hit the beach. That's something that a lot of tourists never take advantage of. Chicago has a great lakefront with beaches dotting the city from south to north. The most popular spot is Oak Street beach, near Michigan ave. Great place to watch the guys/girls with hard bodies, the rollerbladers, bike riders. I believe they also rent bikes there so you can cruise up and down the bike path and get a great view of the city skyline. Be forewarned: It gets extremely crowded on the bike paths on the weekend and there have been a few accidents. But definitely check it out. Even if you don't go into the water (and I personally don't recommend it... it's like a petri dish in there), you can lie on the sand with a book, maybe a smal radio or your iPod and chill out.

Head for Michigan avenue, Lake shore drive area. Go sit by the lake, or the Art Institute if you have daytime hours available. If you are there around the end of June towards the 4th of July that's when Taste of Chicago generally is held, and is fun, if you're into eating. You can take a boat from Grant Park by the fountain over to Navy Pier, or you can walk it if you're in shape. Navy Pier is nice, and it's free to just go there. You only pay for things you decide to buy/eat/ride. You can rent a bike there, also. If you're more an indoor shopping person, check out the Macy's on Michigan that used to be Marshall Fields. The shopping on Michigan avenue is great, and Water Tower Place at Michigan and Chicago is a nice shopping area. Hersheys store is across the street, and the American Girl store is nearby, if you know someone who would appreciate a gift from there. There are sports stores along there also.

I would say if it's in the summer than totally the taste of Chicago. If you didn't know Chicago is known for the best pan pizza personally I like Lou Malnati's and Gino's East pizzeria it's pizza you never tasted. Also hit the museum aquarium, art institute, museum of science and industry, space museum, and the field museum and if your young and wild then hit the clubs there is also Chinatown. We also have The Sears Tower The John Hancock Tower and the water tower full of name brand stores. Hopefully you have enough time to do all this and this is just the beginning of Chicago have fun

Be all the bum you can experience. Wear shabby clothing.
Wet yourself. Carry vodka pint in paper bag. Snooze in park.
Rub up against passer-by on public transit. Chat-up hags
and condo door staff. Find that greasy spoon. Always pay
in coin. Never carry more than the required identification card and HMO plastic. Feel free to dance, lurch, and wobble
in public restrooms or outside restaurant windows. Try begging with tin cup and singing something from an opus.
