Sometimes when i am trying to go to sleep at night i get this feeling and everything looks like its really far away and small even though its just in front of me. Also things feel different when i touch them ie really hard like bricks when there soft, and when i am lying on my pillow it feels as though its got concrete inside it but yet soft at the same time?? its really strange and makes me feel weird, i have to switch on the tv to take my mind off it. Once i got out of bed it was so bad that i went down stairs and the floor seemed miles away!
This only very rarely happens, about 2 - 3 times per year but has been happening for about 15 years.
I am 25 and not on any medication or anything like that and i am in good health.
What do u think??

I have had migraines on and off for 15 years and I sometimes get what you are describing as I go to sleep.

I always ignored it but mentioned it to a Dr friend in the pub once & they mentioned Alice In Wonderland Syndrome. I thought the were taking the P*** but I looked it up & it's real (Check out the wiki link below)

I hadn't thought about it for ages until I read this Q, now I have very few migraines.

So yep, I wouldn't worry but recommend you go the Docs to get it checked out as it could be migraine related & they have all sorts to treat that!

Good Luck
:)

If it's not one of those things mentioned above, It maybe a chemical inbalance in your brain. Don't ask me what a chemical imbalance is because i don't know myself. I've heard the word on tv before and thought it sounded cool.

Seriously though, I too have the weird feeling that things are a mile away when i'm about to fall asleep. They ofcourse go back to their normal distance when i wake up. But also a recurring dream/feeling that occurs when i am just falling asleep that my feet is slipping underneath me. There is nothing associated to it. My feet just slips and although i don't fall into anything I wake up in terror because, believe it or not, it's really scary.

So you aren't alone in the world. Hope that helps. Peace!

I know exactly the sensation!
Do your fingers sometimes seem to be enormous fat bananas holding onto the tiniest bit of thread?
I don't think you should worry about it too much. I've occasionally had these kind of sensations when dozing or about to fall asleep since I was a kid and I don't think it means anything.
Our bodies are covered with nerve endings and when we're lying quietly in bed sometimes, without any other stimuli, our brain focuses very strongly in on one particular sensation. I think everything you describe can be explained in this way.
Sweet dreams!

Your fine, go get a good check up. I had the same thing when I was about your age, though tunnel vision was one of my symptoms. i went the a ear specialist and paid about $1300 for an exam. They checked all my equalibrium and sure enough I was off balance. THe doctor told me lay off the cafine and salt and about two monthes latter I was fine. TO this day I do not use alot of salt and drink de-caf.

I guess it's best to check with your doctor if all is fine, but I bet they'll give you a few paracetamol tablets and off you go - lol
Now, I don't know if that applies to you but there is an interesting phenomenon called hypnagogia with experiences similar to your description. It's weird, but there are lots of perception modes that are not fully documented or known, although experienced and even sought after in Shamanic cultures for example. I guess it's not always very funny to experience but very interesting.

I really think kuroii01 has it right. I read the link that she posted under sources and it seems to describe everything you've described. The site said the real name for Alice in Wonderland Syndrome is called micropsia. I agree with the other people who think it would be best for you to see a doctor.

very just about... i'm having issues deleting mails, era... If i attempt to delete a mail that i've got study, it looks as though the mail is being deleted, and the little message "carried out" looks on the backside left nook, however the mail maintains to be in my 'in-container'.. on occasion, if I mark 3 or 4 (examine mark) i'm able to delete them en-masse, yet bye and great, there's a concern with Yahoo Mail.. different than for all else, it particularly is agonisingly sluggish to navigate to my in-container, and much extra so when I open a mail..
