I'd say working hard (i.e rigorously) but at a consistent and steady pace helps you avoid mistakes. I wish I lived by this rule more :-(

It depends on the task but I think that, generally, if you work really hard on the same thing continuously, and for a long time, there will come a point where you can no longer do it properly and your brain switches off. This is especially the case if you don't get any sleep or don't eat properly. When this happens to me, it usually means I am playing catch-up because I didn't do enough work before that point. It's a horrible experience that you can go through many times before you actually finally learn from it.

Its a bit true cause the harder you work , the expectations you have on yourself are high and it makes you more prone to mistake.

as for working harder and more mistakes - well yeah if u over exert yourself then yeah u prone to make mistakes - best thing is to just take things in stride...

Its a question of balancing your time! Mistakes can be made whether you are working harder or not.
