if you had done or are doing psych at the moment can u pls give me some advice?. I m on my 3rd year and its so competitive and full on, i dont think i can take it on, and this is so important for me, i want to become a clinical neuropsychologist, i cant imagine my self doing anything else, this is it!. however i have issues that i think are holding me back, the first one is that i am very shy and i am affraid of talking to lecturers, tutors and students whom i perceive to be good because i think i am not at their level, i have done well on my units so far but i still think my understanding is not a good, and i am aware of how important it is to create networks for future projects. this is really making me feel overwhelmed, and its hard for me to concentrate when i study because there;s this thing inside of me that tells me i am not as good as the others, besides it takes me long to finish assignments and understand things. did you ever feel this?

I think you'll be suprised just how many people feel the same as you. And yes even the people you think are excelling.

Your tutor is your best friend and your best source of help and resource. Its your tutor that gives you the assignment and its your tutor that knows exactly what they want. By talking to your tutor, even about personal stuff it will give them an insight into who you are and how you are coping. By saying nothing allows the tutor to assume you are fine and doing ok.

Your focus should be "getting your degree". To do this your focus has to be "passing each paper" as you receive it. Worrying about how well or not other people are doing should not be your focus at all unless you can use them as a resource to help you succeed.

You are at school for 1 more year. But you will be in the workplace for the rest of your life. You need all the help you can get so use every resource you can squeeze out of your school and dont worry about anyone else. Use the student association, tutors, the so called brainy ones, the library, time managment, internet, research ... even your neighbours dog if that helps ... whatever, just get your butt up and go get that degree.

You have the passion and will make an excellent psychologist
