Most vehicles come with manuals. Inside these "manuals" there will be something called a "maintenance schedule". The oil change frequency will be listed in there. Usually there are two schedules: one for hard driving and one for easier driving. The generally accepted oil change frequency is every 3000 miles.

manufacturers recommendations
unless
you aren't comfortable with this, I had a Mercury Lynx years ago that called for every 7500 miles with the oil filter at 15,000. I went every 5,000 on it. Now I put on 1200 miles per week and, change oil every fourth third weekend. 3600 miles. Filter is very important. If you are doing self maintenance, you need to check all fluid levels and, top off as needed. Perform basic safety checks, tire pressure, tread wear, inspect for excessive brake dust which may indicate impending brake service, look for oil residue on struts and shocks, corrosion on battery cable ends. An automobile is a wonderful friend and, with the proper maintenance will give years of dependable service.
Good Luck

As often as recommended in the manual that came with it. The only time "3,000 miles or every three months" is recommended is when you are under severe conditions, but the oil change places would prefer you to do it more often than needed of course.
