Do you practice what you preach?

Question

I tell the kids to tidy their rooms - but never find the time to tidy my own.
I tell them they can't have chocolate as it'll make them fat then eat my secret stash once they've gone to bed.
What do you do?

Yes i do exactly the same, not about the bedroom thing as my bedroom is always tidy but the chocolate thing. I've seen myself throw half eaten bars of Chocolate under cushions because they've walked in unexpectedly. What is that all about???

That was a meaningful Black Eyed Peas song a while back. I tell my Boyfriend to save some money for the rent but I end up splurging it in the end.

I avoid that by making a careful note of my practices before I start preaching. I find it helps.
(mind you, I preach some pretty weird stuff as a consequence)

I try to. One of the main ones my nieces and nephews hated was "If you don't eat all your tea, you'll eat it for breakfast tomorrow." They all thought I was being horrible and that it was just something I said until one popped round early-ish one morning years ago and caught me eating a bowl of chilli. On being questioned by the concerned nephew, I simply answered "Well, I couldn't finish it all last night!" He roared with laughter and couldn't believe that I followed my own rules.

I suppose the main one I fail on is "Don't scratch!" I scratch.

Well I wouldn't call it preaching..but I'm no hypocrite...I only say what I mean, and I also do what I mean...if that makes sense...But for its either deal with telling people not to do what you do, let them get away with it, or you stop doing it.

I was going to say i never preach . Then i read the rest of your question and now it makes me think *hmmmmm* maybe i do :)

My theory is if I'm not willing to do it, or if I don't do it, it would be hypocritical to enforce it. I would never expect it of others if I don't do it myself.

Sadly, not always. I tell other's to do stuff but I won't do it myself.
