Device manager isnt even picking up the drives, if any one can point me the right way or help would be great. cheers

1. make sure both the IDE cable and power supply cable is snug on the device.

2. go into the bios (delete key, f2 key for hp and dell, or f10 key for compaq) and on first page make sure your bios is detecting the drive. It will be labeled: Secondary Master or Secondary Slave.

3. if you are using more than one cd/dvd etc drive remove the grey IDE cables from both drives and from the motherboard and thenswitch them to the other connection on the grey (IDE)cable then reboot go back into bios to see if theyre detected.

4. if this doesnt work replace the grey IDE cable with a new one laying around somewhere.

5. If all else fails just try one drive at a time.
