My friend has a 15 ft aluminum bass tracker with a 40 on it and it runs 35 mph. I would think a 50 hp would push the same boat 45 mph. I know its fast enough for a first time boat owner.

It depends on the Hull you put it on, an Aluminum boat will "FLY" with a 50 h.p, you'll also get killed when the transom rips off the back from "OVERPOWERING". I have a 15' Boston Whaler with a 50 hp on her, it's a pretty fast package.

alot depends on length and style and water coditions of boat in question, the weight and how horsepower is dispersed,,inboard, outboard, jet...friend has a lil 15ft Cigarette, was rigged with a 40...when he got it the mph gauge was stuck at 51...we tore it apart, added a step in the hull...I'm afraid to get in it..he worked on Skaters speed record boat
