This poem was written by John Keats who visited the British Museum to see the Elgin Marbles and other Greek artifacts among which one was a Grecian urn that prompted Keats to write this ode.

The characters on the urn are quite mysterious because so little is known about them. However, it is generally agreed the poem deals with the complexity of art's relationship with real life found in the transient world.
