a three week old is probably not a good idea- the long car ride would probably keep her asleep most of the time, and should be woken up to eat every 2-3 hours, but the change in humidity, plus the constant air conditioner or heater going would dry out the baby's sinuses and cause nosebleeds or discomfort which could make baby very fussy, and the change in altitude/ climate, humidity, etc. could be discomforting to the child. I would not recommend it!!

Well first of all if she's not using them now I think she should invest in disposable diapers. Then stop every couple of hours to walk around, change the baby, (this is where the disposable diapers really come in handy you can leave the poopy ones in the garbage at the rest stop), feed the baby and give the baby some time out of the car seat.

Yeah it should be fine, just make sure you stop at least every two hours and take the baby out of the capsule for awhile. Because they are strapped in they can't move forward like we can so they tend to get a little sweaty on their back. It's gonna be a very looooong trip!!!

I wouldn't recommend it. So much hassle to go thru. Infants need to stop to eat about every 3 hours, so it will be a very long trip! And that's not including if the baby gets fussy!

That's a horrendously long trip for a new mother to take by herself.. but other than that I don't see any problem for the baby. It will be quite happy sleeping in it's car seat.. in fact some people take their babies for a drive to get them to sleep.. they seem to be soothed by the motion of the car! She should stop as often as she needs to.. her body will tell her when... but it would probably be a lot better for her to not try to do it in one 16 hour stretch! Be a sport.. spring for a motel at the half way point :)

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer here.
Wait, after reading your question again, your EX wants to take a 3 week old out of state?
It's really up to you, no one else but yourself can give a right or wrong answer, but personally, 3 weeks is a bit young for a road trip.

It's hard because you need to stop and feed and change the baby every couple of hours! Also, the baby will need some love and attention too at each pit stop. If your baby is very fussy, it'll be hard to drive with a cranky one distracting you.
Go with your instincts,
