For Pysch.. take the intro class and find out what you like, once you get into the upper level courses you can take classes in the areas you like. there are lots of areas. can't think of many but

social p; occupational p, abnormal p; sexuality p;
i/o p (my fav), animal behavior p, p of adjustment, research design (required stats classes), personality dev. cognitive p, learning p, mental processes p, criminal p, developmental p
there's really alot to choose from, depends on what you like!

unless it's a really cheap degree, you're going to need to know alot of stats and have a good grasp of math. science you don't need alot of, unless you are going into a scientific psychology. anyways. one thing to remember..

DO NOT GET A PYSC DEGREE UNLESS YOU PLAN ON GETTING YOUR MASTERS (or PhD or PsyD or go to medical school)

everyone i know (15 people) who did not get a masters do nothing related to it as their career. psychology is too broad of a field to learn in just 4 years. but if you're into it, it can be very rewarding eventually. see how it works in your school, but i got my B.S. in psych and A.B. in sociology in 5 years, some of the classes and pre-reqs can be transferred... good luck!

Whether training in psychology is a successful career choice or not depends on your geographical location. For example, Asians are less open to seeking help from a Psychologist/Psychiatrist. A course in Psychology can vary from college to college because it has a wide range. But primarily, what you learn is understanding human thoughts and behavior. It may include understanding how behavior is learnt, how the brain processes information, how biological and social factors influences thoughts and behavior or how unconsciousness influences us.

I would think any and every subject will be helpful..Take history for example.. It's history that shaped our current social beliefs. To get through the course (or any course) stress free, revise early and in bits. Then again, experiencing stress will help you understand those chapters on stress :) But I think good writing skills will put you at an advantage.

What you can do now is grab a book on Psychology. Those one-inch think books usually will give you a good overview of what an introduction would be like. When you're doing the course itself, read widely on the topic that you're doing. It'll help you understand your course material better and also widen your own knowledge in that area. But always remember to be critical as to the authencity and accuracy of the information you're reading, especially if it's from the web or a new research finding that has not be replicated.
