I use the same detergent to wash my baby's clothes, my toddler's and our clothes, and never had any itches or rashes.
However every baby is different, just because mine or other peoples babies get their stuff washed in general detergent doesn't mean your baby will be ok with yours.
If you are using cloth diapers/nappies and washing them your self, and there is history of allergies, then a normal non-biological dergent may be unsuitable.
The best thing to try first is your normal detergent, if problems start occuring then it may be necessary to change to a specialist detergent.

I use dreft it is a little more expensive but it is worth it. Its really hard to tell which child is going to be able to accept regular detergent and which child wont. My first daughter i just used the tide that doesnt have dye in it and no scents and it worked find. My new baby is very sensitive and i got dreft at a baby shower and will continue to use it. Just to be safe use the baby detergent, if price is a problem look for baby detergent but the lesser known brands so you can save a lil money. and make sure you wash the baby clothes by themselves and not with yours

Alls baby detergent is...is free of dyes and free of scents...things that could cause a rash from your babies skin being sensitive. Purex has a dye & scent free detergent. It costs the same as a normal detergent. Also ALL has a dye & scent free detergent. Dreft cost a whopping $12 for a bottle at my local walmart. For the same size the purex one is $3 something! I used these until my son was 5 months or so...now I use the same detergent as ours but I always do a second rinse on his clothes...to make sure all the soap gets out!

To tell you the truth, I just used plain old regular detergent. None of my children ever had nappy rash or anything eles that you could associate with detergent.

OK, First of all just because you don't want to use to baby detergent doesn't mean that you don't love your baby. if that's the case than i guess i don't love mine because i have never used it. and my daughter is just fine. i have used the regular stuff since she came home and nothing has happened to her. all i did want rinse her clothes twice in the washer and she was fine.. you don't have to spend all the extra money on the baby detergent when there are ways around it and still keeping your baby safe..
So use which ever one your prefer..

My son gets really bad rashes all over his body if I use regular detergant. But it really just depends on the child everyone is different. Theres Dreft and All I have used them both. They both work equally as well, but the baby All is cheaper. You will just have to experiment.

I used the baby detergent when my daugter was first born because I have allergies and didn't want her to have a reaction. If you don't have allergies, and your family doesn't have them either, then I wouldn't worry about it. Its mild and doesn't have any dies in it. But it does usually have a scent. Overall I have not noticed a difference. Just hook the velcro on the bibs closed before you wash! They stick to everything.

I use Dreft when my children were babies and they are fine now. Thing is I had so many samples of it I didn't have to buy any.But as I am reading the other answers it is entirely up to you and what your baby can handle, like me I can NEVER use Ivory products I get a bad reaction to it. Plus I am not sure where you are from but where I live we have a Family Dollar,Dollar General, and Dollar Tree and they often sell Dreft for cheaper than most retail chains. My suggestion would be:If you can buy the biggest container of it then it lasts longest-one time purchase can last to your baby's first year.

There is no diffreence in detergents. It is just a marketing ploy for mothers to spend more money. They know that mums will do absolutely anything for baby so will spend the extra money. I actually used it once and it gave my baby a rash. I switched to regular again and no more rash.
