I'm intersted in findinga piece of sciological work done a while ago that developed a statistically sound way to elict the size of someone's social circle. What was it? Who developed it? Has it been validated?

i dont know the piece of work you are referring to, but in the classroom, you take a social survey, you ask the students to write down the four people they would most like to sit with, then you collate the data, usually diagrammatically, this shows the popular students with lots of friends and highlights the isolates, at least then you can manage your classroom to ensure it is inclusive of those 'isolate' children, good luck finding what u looking for!

if someone has one true/loyal friend who stays by them thru thick and thin, they are fortunate, for it's more important than hundreds of parasitical hanger-ons that leave just as soon as a tiny problem occurs.....they jump ship like rats and cowards
