OF COURSE it does...
It shows that you are truly committed and are truly in love with that person. That you want to grow old with that person.
With just a regular bf/gf relationship, things can end just like that. It's so much easier ending that kind of a relationship than it is to break up in a marriage. With marriage, it's called divorce. And divorce is a long complicated drawn-out process. Some take it as motivation to stay together and make their relationship work.
So marriage DOES prove something...
I'll sum it up for you in one word: COMMITMENT.

Yeah you should. It isn't just a social thing but a "commitment." I don't care how much you want it to be insignificant, it is... especially to women.
They've learned since little girls they want to me "married and have a family." And while they want to put on an act of liberation, it's not real. In their mind only real men will make the commitment. If they can't find a man that will marry them, then they lose confidence in themselves. The more confident your lady the better your life. There is no reason not to get married. The question should be, "Why not get married?"
BTW, "marriage" isn't expensive... weddings are.

I believe its more socially accepted in a lot of countries to say you are married. In australia its a common thing to not be married. I have been with my partner for 13 years and we have 4 kids and are not married. We are both very committed people and do not need a marriage certificate to say so.

"Prove" anything? Such as what, I ask?
Getting married isn't supposed to "prove" anything; it's just a formal, legal binding between two people who have ALREADY decided to spend their lives together.
If you're asking or suggesting that people can just live together, well, of course they can, although it would be preferable if they didn't go spawning kids. Children at least deserve to have two parents that aren't afraid to committ to a social, legal agreement.
But I emphasize, that a couple that loves and trusts one another, and has the emotional maturity to live in harmony together, should have no reason to avoid or dodge marriage.

In my opinion it doesnt. However, both the people in a relationship must feel this way or else you are on your way to a living HELL!
Marriage is all about loving somebody unconditionally & remaining loyal to your partner. And for this, one surely doesnt need either social or legal approval.
However if you have kids out of wedlock that may give rise to some very complicated problems (mostly for them).

Yes it shows that u truly love that person and that u only want to be with her or him for the rest of Ur life. yes it could be expensive mine only cost us 50 dollars though. a relationship is easy to get out of for the most part and a marriage has to be worked on and that is were the really knowing if u love a person comes in. if u just want to be with that one person then u r ready and it will not matter to u if everyone else is doing it or not. do it because u want to not because everyone u know is. good luck with that.

getting married is a social obligation and a social stigma, it is a matter of choice for some and a matter of social pressure for others.
Getting married has nothing to do with love or affection.
I feel it is just a bliss if the partner is not right, If you get someone good it is a blessing.

For a man, getting married proves you're foolish enough to believe in love.
For a woman, getting married proves there are still some fools around and you just hooked one.

doesnt prove squat! the only reason people get married is because they feel like the other person would get away if they weren't tied down. but other than that, no reason is ever good enough. love fades, money will get spent, and kids grow up. besides, the spectacular sex only gets more mediocre the more you have it.
