just after some advice really.... approx 2 years ago, my girlfriend at the time came into some money. at this time i had some debt amounting to 1500 pounds and ahe said, without me pre-empting her, that she wanted to clear my debt and treat me to a holiday. i was a bit unsure at the time, but she insisted that she wanted to. anyway, we subsequently split up about 6 months later. she has now got in touch saying that she wants everything paid back and unless i do, she will take things further. we have no written agreement regarding paying her back. does anyone know where i stand legally?? thank you

She hasn't a leg to stand on. But My advice to you is to seek legal advice and do not make any contact with her only through a solicitor as god knows what she'll say you said. What I mean is don't give her anything to use against you let the legal people sort it out. This might cost you a few quid but it will be worth it and will save you a lot of money long term but that's just my opinion. Good Luck

Your x doesn't have a hope in hell to collect. She did it out of the kindness of her heart what little heart she has now. It's just a natural reaction of being spurned. Don't worry about it ignore her unless you feel guilty. She can't take anything further action unless you had a legal agreement prior to her getting you out of debt but you say no. She could make things uncomfortable for awhile ignore her it'll go away with time.

She's not really got a leg to stand on. The payments would be classed as gifts which are not classed as returnable / mutually owned assets. If you need free pro advice check your motor / home insurance policy - nearly all of these come with a free legal helpline for advice on all aspects of law, not just cases related to the policy.

Let her waste her money on solicitors there is no way she can make you pay the money back, it was a gift and she is being really petty even asking for it, it was her choice to give you the money

Take her on JUDGE JUDY she will sort it out and show how shallow your ex really is. Tell her you've already contacted them and they want to know when you can both go, that will test her willingness to pursue the claim. good luck,

nothing contractual, .....duh on her part. It comes down to he said she said, but in a court of law, a judge could still rule on it. It would depend on how well you convinced a judge that there was never any "intention" expressed by her, during the course of offering to pay your debt and take you on vacation.
