The Simpsons id full of social criticism, it really makes the show. The Simpsons has been their through some historical times in our history, and if you look back through the years you can see America outlined in the show.

Of course! One of my favorites is where they go to China because Aunt Selma wants to adopt a child and Homer is flabbergasted to find that it is a communist country. And points out they have all the signs of capatilism or something I can't remember. lol It's just hilarious.

I think that's the whole point. The writers use sarcasm and irony to point out the the social foibles of this society, and that's why it's funny.
