Some say children don't realise the responsibilities of being an adult. I would think they do, but that the responsibilities aren't as important as what 'stuff' they can do and be as a grown up, that the grown up world is full of so much more. Being a 'kid' means they aren't taken seriously and want as much as say in their life as the parents do.
Some say life is about being responsible and to kids it can sound that that is all that life is, one big responsibility. But they know it isn't, and we know that too. As we get older we have the luxury of experience and wisdom to shape us, kids are still getting to grips with their experiences.
When I was growing up us kids were blessed with something we DIDN'T have in abundance - cynicism. As adults we have a wealth of it. That's why kids are probably in a hurry to grow up, to get on the same level as we do, rather than the amount of material possessions they can get and are given. After all, at that age they think 'why are they moaning when they can enjoy all that!?' While we think 'why are they moaning when they can enjoy all that!?'
We're never happy with what we have but what we seem to 'can't ' have.

My thoughts exactly...if i could i would enjoy my childhood and stopped hoping to be an adult...children dont realise the responsibilties that come with being an adult...then again..some "adults" never seem to grow up..its just facts of life...good question!

Because they are children. It's only when you grow up and realise how good childhood is that you want to turn the clock back.

My daughter loves her Myspace and her sense of self. She wants to have her own place and pay her own bills and do her own thing.

The problem is, she doesn't work, she is just seventeen, and has no sense of what life actually costs.

I'm not sure why the rush now to be on their own.....our generation took their time getting out and settling, our parents (baby boomers) were very proactive about being separate from their parents......it might be the cycle that what our parents do isn't right for us type of thing.....

I'm not sure why, but I see that too.

I think it is because children feel like they have no power. They see adults doing so much and ruling them, and they think they will rule when they are older.
Then they grow up to discover they are ruled by law, society, and so on, and can become bitter.

Sad state indeed.

Well maybe because their childhood is so awful. they think if they grow up they will have it easy. NEVER works out that way. it only gets worse.

The same reason why older people want to look and act younger instead of aging gracefully.

Because children see that adults can do whatever they want, go where ever they want and get whatever they want and that's what they crave. They don't necessarily crave being physically bigger.
