Now don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone killed. I am just asking.

The thing is a forensic psychiatrist named Roanld Markman said in his book titled "Alone with the Devil":

"We all share the inner forces that drive people to kill other people. We're all capable of murder which is why all religions contain specific commandments against it and why it's against the law. If we weren't capable of it there would be no need to forbid it. But the reason why some of us are more likely to do it than others lies in the makeup of the individual psyche"

So what is your opinion?

most people seem to be saying that if their children were threatened they would be able to kill someone... actually most people in that situation would have their mind working overtime on how to extract their kids from the situation rather than how to kill the person threatening them....

the ability to kill is within us all... we are all capable of doing so but we are not all willing to follow through with our ability... mostly because we are trained from an early age to not hurt others, not fight, not argue, not kill others....

it is not the desire to protect others that will push people to the point of killing but rather anger at whoever is threatening them.. a deep seated rage that is beyond normal human experience..

we are all capable of doing so much more as well... we are able to talk our way around situations, we are able to hide and escape, we are able to think on more than a fight and flight level...

And quite seriously if someone is standin there in front of your kid with a gun at the childs head then any action on your part in anyway will not necesarrily save the child... what it may do is mean the last image your child has before they die is to see you killed. or the last image you see before you die is to see your child killed...

Most human beings confronted with such a situation will freeze incapable of thought or action because they can not decide what is best... it takes a great deal of training and experience to be able to have an almost even chance of doing the right thing in this situation...

I think I could. If someone threatened my life or anyone else's life right in front of my eyes I would try to kill them or at least incapacitate them. I've actually thought about this a great load every since Columbine happened and realized that schools are prime targets for terrorism and hostage situations. I sort of promised myself that if such a situation arises that I would rather fight and die than let others die and I go unharmed. So yeah, I could kill someone.

That's not a very profound quote. I think that much is obvious to most people.

Like most people, I could kill another person given the right (or I guess, wrong) circumstances, which I believe would have to include protecting my own life and/or the life of someone I cared about.

I definitely could, if my children's lives were threatened. If I ever saw the paedophile that raped my baby when she was only 7, it would take all my strength to control myself. I hope I could find that strength now, for the sakes of my other children, but back then... The law let her down, he walked free never to face court because the police thought it was too costly to bring him back. He fled the country.
Capable of murder? yes. I think every parent is. Given a sudden, particularly threatening situation, the urge to protect your child and eliminate the threat surpases reason.

There was a time when I would have strongly disagreed with this statement, because i had never ever wanted to do bodily injury to anyone. Then one day someone deliberately injured my child. I literally saw red and wanted to do serious injury to this person. Until that moment I did not know that I could be capable of that.

I doubt i could ever just go and kill someone in cold blood, I have a hard time just witnessing violence. However if it was to save the life of myself or my family (only in defence) that may be another story. I hope i never have to find out the answer to that.

I will be very unwilling to kill anything. The religions sometimes cause you to kill somebody, so it is wrong and it also didn't state the reasons of the higher chances of people being able to murder somebody.

the truth i cant kill anyone if i kill someone i would feel my self being killed the same way and worse. when thinking of life everyone is dying but why make it soon for some people. the way u want to live with family and kids, u must think of other people trying to live it might be hard for them but its not that they are asking u to make it easier for them by killing them. everyone has some one watching there backs and caring about them. make the dreams u want to accomplish come true by helping others accomplish there's.

not to u, but to people that kill

I believe that all humans are capable of murder, depending on the circumstances and mental thinking, however, determines whether the "inner killer" will be unleashed.

Yes, I think I could if someone hurt my child. Otherwise, I feel bad even if I accidentally run over a squirrel, or kill a spider in my house.
