My daughter was getting cereal at 3 weeks old. She was not getting enough to satisfy her hunger, and could not be comforted. My husband suggested cereal in her last bottle of the night, and she has slept through the night since about 5 weeks of age (she is now 12 weeks old).
There are some schools of thought that no solids or cereals should be given until 5 or 6 months of age, that is fine for parents that believe in that. I beg of you not to let other mothers make you feel bad. YOU follow YOUR instincts when it comes to YOUR child. If you feel that your child could benefit from cereal, go right ahead.
Good luck.

people say solids shouldnt be started until 6 months these days but most mothers i know (including my own!) have started their children on farex at about 3 months. My brother was on solids a few days before turning 3 months and I was 3 1/2 months. we took to it and had no problems. and by 6-7 months you can introduce the more tasty foods!
I'd recommend keeping on doing what you are doing. if your baby has no symptoms of throwing up or constipation and clearly likes it then it wont hurt!!!

I live in Germany and here they don't start the babies on solids until 4 months of age. But if you think she is doing better with the addition of the rice cereal then keep giving it to her. Rice cereal is the easiest to digest and good for her also. Just wait another month or 2 to introduce her fruits, veggies, and juice.

You know, you're not supposed to give it until around 5 months or so! But my baby is only 3months old and would not stop eating! He was crying non stop one night so I ran to the store and got him rice cereal and he gobbled it up. He's my third child by the way.
I say, if you think your baby is ready and your baby is showing signs of wanting it or needing it, then go ahead. The age limit is just a rough guess-timate!
Just remember that once you start the veggies/fruit, you need to only give one kind for atleast 3 days to be sure she isn't allergic. Example: give bananas for 3 days, then move on to something else for another 3 days.

My son was about4 weeks old when we FINALY found out that he had Gerd which is gasteral Esophical Reflux Desease. after 5 formulas later with in a months time we found one that worked. We put Cereal in his bottle to help also to keep it down along with the new formula helped out alot. Every child is different, do not pay attention to the books the experts ect most of them have never had kids, and if they do they have someone to raise them for them. our son was 3-4 months old when he started eating solid foods and he is doing great no health problems any more what so ever it does not cause any damage what so ever. Just go lightly with it no spiced foods, if you have to puree up some fresh vegies ect and see how she likes that.

Solids really shouldnt be started until 6 months. And cereal is baby junk food.
There are soo many reasons to wait, healthwise... im really tired of going over it again and again... do a search and find some old questions.
ETA: Or maybe there werent so many colicky babies because mothers had to breastfeed and rice cereal and jarred food was not an option?

no I gave my babies food early, I give them cereal/porridge, that label is just red tape, you can give it to them anytime even at a few weeks old.
I gave cereal or porridge to my baby at 1 week old, she is still very healthy.
I gave my babies juice 10 am everyday from they turned a month.
And when I ate I would put my finger in it and put it in their mouth, and they were eating very well very early.
I even gave them pureed food from about 5 months, I do not let the barrier of age bother me, but rather when the child is ready.
when I ate my daughter was 4 months and grabbing food out my plate to try and put it in her mouth.
I would always have to chew it and feed it to her.
Kids will lead their own way! trust me!

Wait until the baby is at least 5 months old to begin solid food.
Talk to your doctor about it.

no not at all! good job trusting your "motherly instincts"! too many parents now days are doing everthing "by the book" and the number of "collicky" babies and "small" weight babies is outrageous! remember years ago when there wasnt such a thing? i think it was bacause there wasnt a "by the book" to read! youll do great following your own intuitions. happy babying
